Elevating Beach Vibes to Contemporary Coastal Elegance

Client Vision and Project Scope

This Project in Long Beach, CA was a transformative journey from concept to completion. Our clients envisioned a home that mirrored the relaxed feel of a beachside dwelling. This project involved demoing the existing home, ground-up construction of a two-level residence, and constructing an accompanying guest house. This venture spanned two years. The initial casual beach house vision evolved. Under our design direction the end result was a sophisticated contemporary beach house that integrated natural elements with luxury and coastal charm.

Design Evolution and Selections

Embracing the project's evolution, the design strategy involved meticulous selections that enhanced the property's coastal allure while infusing it with a contemporary elegance. The utilization of James Hardie siding on the exterior of the home created an elevated beach cottage vibe. The exterior transformation was marked by the use of Sherwin Williams Hale Navy paint for an immediate nautical feel. The garage door choice of carriage style cedar was selected to ground the bold navy exterior paint. The front Dutch Door painted in Dunn Edwards butter yellow offered a welcoming pop of color and intrigue. We added elements of charm throughout the home for warmth and hospitality.

Upon entry to the home guests are greeted by the captivating custom Arto tile fireplace, each cement tile painstakingly crafted by hand. This element serves as a testament of our commitment to artisanal quality and design. The great rooms' maple floors, ceilings, and beams exude craftsmanship. The pitched 15’ ceilings in the living room amplify the space with an open and airy ambiance.

Color Palette and Material Choices

In alignment with the client's request for blue accents the kitchen island was painted in Sherwin Williams Old Blue Jeans. This created a vibrant focal point. Seagrass pendants from Troy Lighting above the island introduced warmth through natural textures. The downstairs bathroom featured custom navy cement tiles from Rock Mill in Los Angeles. The unique sink from Native Trails made from cement and jute fiber underscores the design choices that connect with natural elements. The Axor out of wall faucet and Jamie Young blown glass pendant lighting create brilliance and a juxtaposition amongst the primary natural design choices.

A striking chandelier at the staircase landing, crafted with coco beads by Made Well acts as a visual centerpiece. The primary bathroom offers a serene retreat with river rock flooring and a porcelain tile shower in soothing tones. A playful yet sophisticated atmosphere was curated for the children's bathroom through the use of classic cream subway tile accented with a black border and complemented by youthful wall sconces from School House Electric.

Guest House Transformation

The guest house or ADU was a re-envisioned nod to a 70s retro beach vibe with contemporary flair. The standout feature is the striped tile shower in the guest bathroom, inspired by the clothing brand Aviator Nation. This design perfectly encapsulates the desired aesthetic. This space is further accentuated by a hand-blown glass light fixture, thoughtfully placed off-center above the vanity to harmonize with the '70s theme.

Conclusion

This comprehensive project not only transformed a property but also transcended the client's initial vision. The marrying of casual beach vibes with elevated contemporary elegance achieved a cohesive thoughtful home design.Through careful selection of materials, colors, and design elements we crafted a space that resonates with warmth, sophistication, and a custom coastal charm.
